    I found this recipe in the Redbook magazine 18 years ago. It is my dad's and step son's favorite cake. It also makes a beautiful cake for the Christmas holidays. And it is soooo simple to do and is sooo very delicious. It will melt in your mouth!


    List of Ingredients


    • 2 1/2 Cups Self Rising Flour
    • 1 Cup Buttermilk
    • 1 1/2 Cup Vegetable oil
    • 1 Tsp. Baking Soda
    • 1 Tsp. Vanilla Extract
    • 1/2 Cup (2 one once bottles) Red Food Coloring
    • 1 1/2 Cups of Sugar
    • 1 Tsp. of Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
    • 1 Tsp. White Vinagar
    • 2 Large Eggs


    Instructions


    1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Mix together all ingredients with electric mixer.
    2. Spray 3 nine inch cake pans or 1 13"x9" pan with nonstick spray.
    3. Pour batter evenly in the cake pans
    4. Bake for 20 minutes or until toothpick inserted comes out clean
    5. Cool layers on wire racks for 10 minutes.
    6. Carefully remove layer from pans to racks to cool completely.


    Final Comments


    Top with cream cheese frosting.
