    Overnight Apple French Toast

    Source of Recipe

    Doreen Tomlin

    Recipe Introduction

This is a family favorite. We make this every Christmas Eve and have it for Christmas breakfast. For a special change, I decorate the top with red and green cherries, using the red for berries and the green for holly.

    List of Ingredients

    French Toast:
1 cup brown sugar or 1/2 cup honey
    1/2 cup butter
    4 large tart apples-peeled & sliced about 1/4" thick
(sprinkle on a little lemon juice so they don't brown)
    6 eggs
    1 cup milk
    1 tsp. vanilla
9 slices day old French Bread cut 3/4" thick

    Optional Syrup for Topping:
    1 cup applesauce
    1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    1/8 tsp. ground cloves

    Recipe

In saucepan or microwave brown sugar or honey and butter until thick syrup like, about 3-5minutes.
Pour into 13x9 baking pan lightly sprayed with cooking spray.

Prepare apples and then arrrange on top of sugar mixture.

In a mixing bowl beat eggs, milk, and vanilla.

Dip bread into egg mixture for 1 minute.

Place over apples. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Remove from fridge 30 minutes before baking.

Bake uncovered at 350 for 35-40 min.

While baking mix topping ingredients altogether in microwave or saucepan. Cook till hot. Serve over Apple French Toast.
