Ezekiel Bread for the Bread Machine

    Source of Recipe

Played with a few recipes to come up with this one!

    Recipe Introduction

Ezekiel Bread is a recipe that is inspired from the fast taken in the passage of Ezekiel 4:9-17 in the Bible. God was instructing Ezekiel in direction for his food preparation. He commanded Ezekiel to lay on his side for 390 days and bread and water were all Ezekiel was to be eating. As God gave Ezekiel the list of ingredients we can see that there are beans and lentils included. God knew that Ezekiel needed a source of protein for good health. Because God included such a good source of protein in this bread it is a bread good for eating during a time when one is fasting. Some of you, like me, may not be able to completely fast due to health reasons. If so... this breads for you! This recipe is an approximate and not of course "sure thing" of exact ingredients Ezekiel used. It's been adapted to my personal preferences as well as my use of using my bread machine, which obviously Ezekiel did not have. Hope you make, bake and enjoy this very healthy bread. NOTE: You can also use this recipe to make ahead by just making the dough and baking it later in the oven.

    List of Ingredients

1 cup water, warm enough, according to your bread machine
1/4 cup red kidney beans, I use organic canned, drained
1/4 cup lentils, I use organic canned, drained
    2 T. olive oil
    2 T. honey
    3/4 tsp. kosher salt
2 cup bread flour, I highly recommend King Arthur bread machine flour - it's excellent!

Pick two of the following three flour types. Our personal favorites are the barley and millet:
    1/2 cup barley flour
    1/2 cup millet
    1/2 cup spelt

    2-3 T. vital gluten
1 pkg. yeast, I use Red Star Quick-Rise

    Optional Ingredients:
You can add raisins, ground clove, cinnamon, etc. Doing this makes for a great breakfast bread. Remember this will also change your nutritional outcome. This is something I've not tried so I can't say much about how it tastes. I'm sure people who've stayed on this bread for sometime just want a change now and again and so it is a good way to add a bit of variety.

    Recipe

Put all ingredients into your bread machine in the order listed.

Just another Note: I've found that you will have left-over's after opening those cans of lentils and kidney beans. Make sure you adjust the water temp accordingly. What I do is add the lentils and beans at the side on the top if it's not a fresh can.

    Or

I have also pre-measured the beans out into zip lock bags and then defrosted before using them in the recipe.

Bake in machine using the 2lb. setting.

Most definitely, above all else... ENJOY!!!
