Apple Pie Snickerdoodles

List of Ingredients

1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup butter
2 eggs
2 3/4 cups All-Purpose flour
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt

Roll-In Mixture
1/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon Apple Pie Spice (see note to make homemade)




Recipe

Preheat oven to 400º.
Mix 1/4 cup sugar and apple pie spice together and set aside.

In a large bowl beat 1 1/2 cups sugar, shortening, butter and eggs. Stir in flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt.

Shape dough into well rounded, teaspoonful size balls. Roll in sugar-spice mixture. Place about 2" apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes. Remove and cool on racks.

Makes 4 dozen cookies.

*Homemade Apple Pie Spice
1/4 cup ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons ground nutmeg
2 teaspoons ground ginger

Mix thoroughly all above. Store in labeled airtight container or zip-lock type bag. Use as requested in recipes.
