    Fruit Twist Cookies

    List of Ingredients




    2 cups All-Purpose Flour
    1/3 cup sugar
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon ground mace
    1/4 teaspoon baking powder
    3/4 cup butter
    5-7 tablespoons ice water
    1/4 teaspoon lemon extract
    1/4 cup preserves (apricot/strawberry/raspberry)
    milk
    sugar for topping

    Recipe



    Stir together flour, sugar, salt, mace, and baking powder. Cut in butter until mixture resembles crumbs. Combine 1 tablespoon of ice water and lemon extract and sprinkle over part of the mixture. Gently toss with a fork, repeat process with 1 tablespoon of ice water at a time until dough is completely moistened. Form into a ball. Cover and chill for at least 30 minutes or until easy to handle.

    Divide dough into quarters. Roll two of the quarters into 12x4 inch rectangles and spread with preserves. Roll remaining two quarters inot a 12x4 inch rectangle and carefully place over those that are spread with preserves. trim edges.

    Cut each rectangle into twelve 4x1 inch strips. Twist each strip twice. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in a
    375º oven for 15 minutes. Carefull brush with milk and sprinkle with sugar. Return to over and bake 5 minutes more or until edges are lightly golden brown. Remove and cool.

    Makes about 24 cookies.
