List of Ingredients

1 cups margarine softened
1/2 cup powdered sugar
2 egg yolks
2 cups sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons almond flavoring
1 (9 1/2 ounce) bottle maraschino cherries, drained (reserve juice)


Recipe

Preheat oven to 325º

Cream margarine and sugar. Add egg yolks. Blend in flour and salt. Add flavoring. Chill until firm enough to handle, about 2 hours.

Pinch off pieces of dough with floured hands, insert cherry, and cover with the dough.

Bake about 25 minutes, until lightly browned. When cool, ice with the following.

Icing:
1 tablespoon shortening
1 tablespoon cherry juice
1 tablespoon water
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 1/3 cups powdered sugar
Melt shortening, add juice and water, beat in salt and powdered sugar. Beat until spreading consistency. Spread on tops of cookies. Makes 36
