Sausage Pinwheels

Recipe Introduction
These are seriously addicting. I have never been able to stop eating these until they were gone. I have never KNOWN anyone who could, either! I have put Alice's original recipe, as is. When I make these, I usually use frozen puff pastry instead of the crescent rolls. I have also substituted smoked salmon for the sausage and added some dill and mustard for a good result. Irresistable, I promise!
List of Ingredients
- 1 lb. mild or hot sausage (bulk, like you serve for breakfast)
- 1 white onion, finely, finely minced
- 2 - 8 oz. pkgs. cream cheese
- 2 cans of crescent rolls
Instructions
- Crumble sausage, add onion and cook. Drain very well. Mix with cream cheese while still warm. Cool.
- Roll out packages of crescent rolls into two rectangles. Pinch at perforations.
- Spread dough with cream cheese mixture. Roll up and refrigerate until firm. Slice into 1/2" slices (the easiest way to do this and get perfectly round pieces is to use dental floss to "garrotte" the slices).
- Bake slices at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes. (If you use the puff pastry, use the package directions for temperature and time.)
