Recipe Introduction
Cathy made this when the ladies at work brought in breakfast to celebrate my birthday and I loved it. You can use bacon or sausage and Cathy says that she always ups the amount of cheese. You should let the bread sit out awhile to let it get a little dried out. She got the recipe from her mom, originally. I added a little hot sauce and pepper to the custard mixture. NOTE: This goes together ahead of time (up to the night before).
List of Ingredients
8 slices of bread, cubed and crustless
7 eggs
1/4 lb. cheddar cheese, grated
1/2 t. dry mustard
1/2 t. worchestershire sauce
1 t. salt
2 c. milk
1 1/2 lb. sausage or bacon, cooked and crumbledRecipe
Layer half the bread, cheese and sausage or bacon into a 13X9-inch casserole dish. Layer the rest of the same ingredients. Mix eggs, milk, dry mustard, worchestershire sauce and salt [and pepper and hot sauce, if you use them]. Pour over the bread mixture. Press down lightly to soak the bread.
Refrigerate overnight or for a few hours. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
Serves 8-12.
