Old Fashioned Devil’s Food Cake

Delicious, traditional devil’s food cake. Use your favorite frosting.

List of Ingredients
- 2 ½ c. cake flour
- ½ c. cocoa
- ½ t. baking soda
- 2 t. baking powder
- ½ t. salt
- 8 T. butter
- 2 t. vanilla extract
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 c. packed dark brown sugar
- 3 eggs
- ½ c. light cream
- 2/3 c. sour cream
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter and flour 3 8” cake pans.
- Sift flour, measure, and sift again with cocoa, soda, baking powder and salt.
- Cream butter; add vanilla and both sugars, beating well. Beat in eggs one at a time, until thoroughly mixed.
- While beating slowly, add half of dry ingredients. Add light cream. Add remaining dry ingredients, then sour cream. Mix thoroughly.
- Pour into prepared cake pans and bake 25 – 30 minutes, or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Do not open oven while baking.
- Cool in pans 5 minutes, then on rack. When completely cook, frost.
