    Easy Orange-Chocolate Fudge

    Source of Recipe

    Internet

    Recipe Introduction

This candy is delicious IF you like the flavor of orange with chocolate. And the mix-in of crumbled honeycomb is fantastic. I make sponge candy for Christmas every year and always have crumbles and shards after breaking it up. I use those for making Happy Accident Candy but there is always more than I can use. This is a great way of using up the leftovers. One caution, though – don’t try to sprinkle the broken up pieces of sponge candy on top of the fudge, just mix them into the fudge when it is soft. The finished fudge has to be refrigerated and the stuff on top gets gooey and unpleasant (I tried). You have some options for the candy mix-in: you can make a batch of my Sponge Monkey Candy (in which case you’ll have sponge candy and scraps - the recipe is in this section) or you can break up either Crunchie or Violet Crumble bars to equal 1 cup. I saw this recipe originally on Instagram and found it on YouTube also. Everyone I saw made this in the slow cooker. I really don’t know why you would do that. I think it will be much easier to use the microwave or a double boiler. See my note regarding the slow cooker directions at the bottom of the recipe.

    List of Ingredients

    3 Chocolate oranges
    1 can sweetened condensed milk
    1 t. vanilla
    1 T. butter
1 c. sponge candy scraps, or broken up candy bar (see note above)

    Recipe

Line a 7x11-inch brownie pan with non-stick foil or parchment paper (you can spray it with baking spray for a little extra insurance).

You can either use a large microwave safe bowl or a double boiler (or fashion one from a saucepan and a metal bowl).

    MICROWAVE:
Place everything but the crushed pieces of honeycomb into the bowl and heat for 30 second intervals, stirring after each interval. When it is almost completely melted, let sit (stirring occasionally) until smooth. Stir in the honeycomb until well blended and pour into prepared pan. Cool, then refrigerate for at least 3 hours before cutting into small squares.

    DOUBLE BOILER:
Place everything but the crushed pieces of honeycomb into the top of the double boiler and gently, on medium-low heat over simmering water, melt, stirring almost constantly. When completely melted and smooth, remove from heat. Stir in the honeycomb until well blended and pour into prepared pan. Cool, then refrigerate for at least 3 hours before cutting into small squares.

    STORE IN REFRIGERATOR
NOTE: If you decide to make this in a slow cooker, you just need to toss everything but the sponge candy into the slow cooker and turn it to HIGH. Leave the lid off and let it melt, stirring often. This is supposed to take 15 minutes. It took me almost 40 minutes. Just keep stirring until it is completely melted and smooth. Stir in the sponge scraps and pour into prepared pan.
