    Pillsbury Holiday Baking November 2002

    Recipe Introduction

A yummy gooey cooky bar. Use a disposable aluminum pan to make cutting and clean up easier!

    List of Ingredients

    • BASE AND TOPPING:
    • 1 1/2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
    • 1 1/2 c. butter, softened
    • 1 c. quick-cooking rolled oats
    • 1 c. Rice Crispies
    • 2 c. all purpose flour
    • 1 t. baking soda
    • 1/2 t. salt
    • FILLING:
    • 35 vanilla caramels, unwrapped
    • 1/3 c. milk
    • TOPPING:
    • 1 (14 oz.) bag of M & M's (use red and green at Christmas)

    Instructions

    1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Spray 13x9 inch pan w/ cooking spray. In a large bowl, combine brown sugar and butter; beat until smooth. Stir in oats. Mix flour, baking soda and salt and add to mix until well blended. Stir in cereal. Reserve 3 c. oat mixture for topping. Press remaining mixture in bottom of prepared pan. Bake for 10 minutes.
    2. Meanwhile, in small saucepan, combine caramels and milk; heat over low heat until caramels are melted and the mixture is smooth, stirring constantly.
    3. Remove partially baked base from oven. Sprinkle w/ 1 c. of M & M's. Drizzle w/ caramel mixture, being careful not to let caramel touch sides of pan. Drop reserved oat mixture by heaping teaspoonsful over caramel. Sprinkle w/ remaining M & M's. Press down lightly.
    4. Return to oven; bake an additional 24 minutes or until center is set and top is golden brown. Cool completely. Cut into bars.
