Grace’s Sugar Cookies

Recipe Introduction
These are very good plain sugar cookies. You can decorate or not, as you prefer. Make sure to roll them very, very thin. I find that rolling them on a floured piece of parchment paper and putting a new, clean knee-hi stocking on the rolling pin helps a lot! I substituted Splenda for ½ of the sugar and it worked very well. Remember they won’t brown as much as a cooky made with all sugar!
List of Ingredients
- 2/3 c. butter
- ¾ c. sugar
- 1 t. vanilla
- 1 egg
- 4 t. milk
- 2 c. sifted flour
- 1 ½ t. baking powder
- ¼ t. salt
Instructions
- Thoroughly cream the butter, sugar and vanilla. Add the egg and milk. Beat until light and fluffy. Sift together the dry ingredients. Blend into the creamed mixture. Divide the dough in half. Cover and chill for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll to 1/8” thickness. Cut into the desired shapes with cooky cutters. Bake on an ungreased cooky sheet (I use parchment paper) for 8 to 10 minutes. Cool slightly before removing from cooky sheet.
