    Seafood Bread Dip

    Source of Recipe

Joanne Fluke in “Sugar Cookie Murder”

    Recipe Introduction

Gooey, delicious warm dip. I doubled the amount of the seafood and used both crab and shrimp. I also added ½ t. red pepper, 2 t. Worcestershire sauce and 2 t. horseradish. Everyone loved this stuff!

    List of Ingredients

    32 oz. cream cheese
½ lb. chopped crab meat or shrimp
4 green onions (with stems), cleaned, peeled, and chopped
    1 t. garlic salt
    1 t. black pepper
    ¼ c. dried chopped onions
    1/3 c. mayonnaise
    2 t. lemon juice
Round loaf of bread, unsliced, 10 – 12” in diameter
    1 egg, beaten

    Recipe

    Preheat oven to 300 degrees.

Unwrap cream cheese, put it in a large microwave-safe bowl, and heat it for 40 seconds on HIGH in the microwave. Turn the bowl and keep heating it in 20-second increments until it’s soft and you can stir it.

Add the next 7 ingredients and mix well.

Cut the top off the loaf of bread and set it aside to use later. Hollow out the bread with a spoon, but be careful to leave at least ½” of bread on the bottom and the sides. Brush the inside of the loaf with the beaten egg and pop it in the oven for 10 minutes [NOTE: it took me almost twice as long as that] until the egg has dried. Then fill the loaf with the seafood mixture and put the top back on.

Wrap the loaf tightly in two layers of foil, keeping the top up. Set the loaf on a cooky sheet and bake for 2 hours.

    Serve with crackers and bread.
