Recipe Introduction
Really good. I like to make dipping sauces to go with this: pizza sauce, horseradish sauce, etc.
List of Ingredients
- 2 lb. boneless round steak, cut for braciola and pounded to 1/4" thickness - about 10 slices
- salt and pepper
- 1 T. olive oil
- 1 onion halved and sliced
- 2 loaves - 1 lb. each - frozen bread dough - thawed
- 1 - 12 oz. jar roasted red peppers, cut into strips - divided
- 8 oz. shredded Cheddar cheese - divided
- 1 egg yolk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Sprinkle steak slices with salt and pepper.
- In skillet heat oil over medium-high heat. Add onion; cook, stirring occasionally, until tender, 5-7 minutes. Remove from pan.
- Add steak slices in batches; cook until just browned, about 2 minutes per side.
- On a lightly floured surface roll out 1 loaf of bread to 12"x16" rectangle. Place half of steak slices on dough to within 2" of sides. Top with half of roasted peppers, half of cheese and half of onions. Fold short edges up over topping. Lift up one long end; roll up in thirds, jellyroll style. Place on ungreased baking sheet, seam side down.
- Combine egg yolk and 1 T. water. Brush sandwich with some of mixture.
- Repeat with other loaf and ingredients.
- Bake until crust is golden brown; about 25 minutes.
Final Comments
Something I like to do is after I brush with the egg yolk, sprinkle with onion bits and poppyseeds. Yum!
