Aaron Franklin’s Sweet BBQ Sauce
Source of Recipe
Aaron Franklin
Recipe Introduction
Mike found this recipe in an article about Franklin and his Austin TX BBQ place. There are various “Aaron Franklin BBQ Sauce” recipes out there, but Mike knows that I like sweet, thin sauces, so he gave this one to me. I liked it pretty well, but I don’t really care for cumin outside of taco seasoning mix and the cumin is really the top note here. I would omit the cumin next time. I also found it less sweet than the recipe title suggests (I think that in Texas, anything made without jalapenos is considered ‘sweet’), so I added a tablespoon of molasses and 2 tablespoons of honey.
List of Ingredients
14 oz. catsup
5 oz. water
2.5 oz. apple cider vinegar
2.5 oz. white vinegar
4.5 T. brown sugar
2.5 T. Worcestershire sauce
1 T. chili powder
1/2 T. kosher salt
1/2 T. black pepper
1 t. cumin
Recipe
Mix all ingredients in a saucepan and simmer for 20 minutes. Taste and adjust seasonings. Cool and store in refrigerator for up to 3 months.
