Momma's Marinara for Stuffed Shells

Recipe Introduction
This is a great fresh tasting sauce. You can use it with the Spinach Stuffed Shell recipe in my Casserole file or with any dish that needs a tomato (not meat) sauce.
The only changes that I ever make are to use fresh basil when I have some. At the height of summer, I have used fresh wonderful tomatoes in place of the canned ones and that is remarkable!!! I also sometimes need to add a little sugar if the canned tomatoes are acidy.
List of Ingredients
- 2 garlic cloves - minced
- 1 small onion - chopped
- 2 T. olive oil
- 48 oz. canned tomatoes - crushed
- 1 - 6 oz. can tomato paste
- 3 t. dried basil
- salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Saute onions and garlic in oil until soft. Add rest of the ingredients and simmer 1/2 hour.
