    Source of Recipe

    Christmas with Southern Living 2001

    Recipe Introduction

I had never had bacon in dressing before. This is really good! You could substitute biscuits for the white bread in this recipe.

    List of Ingredients

    • 8" round of prepared cornbread, crumbled
    • 6 bacon slices
    • 4 celery ribs, finely chopped
    • 1 large onion, finely chopped
    • 6 c. torn day old bread (about 6 slices)
    • 2/3 c. chopped pecans, toasted
    • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
    • 2 T. light brown sugar
    • 1 t. rubbed sage
    • 1 t. salt
    • 1/2 t. pepper
    • 3-4 c. chicken broth

    Instructions

    1. Cook bacon in large skillet until crisp; remove bacon, drain on paper towels, reserving drippings in the pan. Crumble bacon, and set aside. Saute celery and onion in bacon drippings in skillet 10 minutes or until tender.
    2. Combine crumbled cornbread, bacon, sauteed onion mixture, bread and remaining ingredients in a large bowl; stir well. spoon dressing into a 13x9" baking dish. Bake, uncovered, at 375 degrees for 45 minutes or until golden.
