Judy's Kale & Chickpea Soup

I asked my family for some favorite recipes to include here and Judy sent this wonderful sounding soup recipe. It is something that Mike especially will like.
List of Ingredients
3/4 lb. kale leaves, chopped
1 large potato, cut into cubes
1/4 chorizo sausage, cut into 1/2" dice (1 C.)
3 1/2 C. chicken broth
1 - 14 oz. can chickpeas
1/2 bay leaf
2 T. olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, chopped
black pepper
1 t. salt
2 C. water
Recipe
Cook onion, garlic, bay leaf, salt and pepper in oil until onion starts to brown. Add potato, kale, broth and water and cook partially covered, until potatoes are tender, 15-20 minutes.
Reduce heat to low, add chickpeas and chorizo and gently simmer uncovered for 3 minutes. Discard bay leaf.
Serves 6.
