    I tried this recipe for the first time to go along with a night of German food, an homage to Grandma Bell. Barry really liked it so it is a keeper.


    List of Ingredients


    • 1 head of red cabbage
    • 2 cooking apples (peeled and chopped)
    • 1 large onion- chopped
    • 1/4 cup sugar
    • 1/4 cup vinegar
    • 6 slices bacon, cooked/crumbled
    • 2 Tblsp bacon drippings
    • 1 tsp salt
    • pepper
    • 1/2 cup boiling water


    Instructions


    1. Coarsly shred cabbage.
    2. In a large saucepan, combine all ingredients. Bring to a boil.
    3. Reduce heat and simmer, covered for 1 hour.


    Final Comments


    Serve with sauerbraten or pork roast and spaetzle.
