I tried this recipe for the first time to go along with a night of German food, an homage to Grandma Bell. Barry really liked it so it is a keeper.
List of Ingredients
- 1 head of red cabbage
- 2 cooking apples (peeled and chopped)
- 1 large onion- chopped
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup vinegar
- 6 slices bacon, cooked/crumbled
- 2 Tblsp bacon drippings
- 1 tsp salt
- pepper
- 1/2 cup boiling water
Instructions
- Coarsly shred cabbage.
- In a large saucepan, combine all ingredients. Bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat and simmer, covered for 1 hour.
Final Comments
Serve with sauerbraten or pork roast and spaetzle.
