    1 recipe "pastry to make danishes"
    1 recipe remonce
    cinnamon sugar
    3/4 cups chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
    Egg wash
    chopped almonds
    powdered sugar icing

    Recipe



    Roll a piece of base dough out about 8 inches wide and 1/2 inch thick. Spread with a thin layer of remonce. and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Here you can use the optional pecans if desired.

    Roll up from long side, and cut into 1 1/2 inch slices. Now cut 2/3 of the way through each slice crosswise. Bend the two resulting pieces made by cutting away from each other to form each snail, (looking rather more like a butterfly than a snail. Flip these pieces so that the uncut dough is on the top (making the body of the butterfly). Press a little if necessary.
    Let rise 1/2 hour. brush with egg wash. sprinkle with chopped almonds and sugar before placing in oven
    Bake at 375 F. degrees about 25 minutes. Cool and spread moderately with powdered sugar icing.
