    Chinese Spicy Beef Lettuce Wraps

    List of Ingredients


    • 1 pound lean ground beef
    • 2 cloves garlic,minced
    • 1 T sherry
    • 2 T soy sauce
    • 1 T dark sesame oil
    • 1-1 1/2 tsp Thai chili paste, (Sambal oelek) or 1/2 tsp cayenne
    • 1/2 -3/4 tsp chinese five spice powder
    • 1 bunch green onions ( about 8-10 small)
    • 1 (8 oz) can water chestnuts, drain and coarsely chop
    • 1 red jalapeno chile, seeded, deveined and minced
    • 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 1 T cold water
    • 10 leaves bibb or butter lettuce, from about 1 Bibb or 2 butter


    Instructions


    1. Brown the ground beef over medium high heat, drain if necessary

    2. Chop the white part of the green onions and cut the green part, on the bias in quarter inch lengths, reserve.

    3. Add garlic, sherry, soy sauce, sesame oil, chili paste one half teaspoon five-spice powder, white part of green onions, water chestnuts and minced chili. Turn down heat and simmer 10 minutes.

    4. Add cornstarch mixture to beef and stir until thickened slightly. Add green part of onion and cook just until heated through.

    5. Separate lettuce leaves, wash and pat dry. Arrange lettuce cups alongside beef.
