    Inner flower can be used as a fire starter and insect repellent in the fire pit.

    List of Ingredients

    Rootstock, peel and remove fibrous outer covering.
    Slice, dice or boil whole, or fry as for potatoes, or roast them.
    Dry the rootstock and pound into a flour. (or mash in water and let sit for a few hours, use the gooey mass in soup or bread, (rope like).
    Raw young shoots taste like cucumber, trim bottom of shoot and peel away 2 outer leaves. Can also be cook, added to soup or stews, or salad. (into summer).
    Flower, ( before midsummer), eat like corn on the cob. tender stems in summer, (lower several inches).
    Pollen, midsummer. Shake into a container and use to thicken soup or mix with flour for baking.(use upper male portion), also raw.
    Shoots, separate outer leaves from core to base of plant and pull out. Discard outer leaves. Use soft white centers. Mucilaginous, use this jelly as a thickener for soups.
