Ciliege Sotto Spirito-preserved cherries

1 1/2 pounds bing cherries
1/2 C sugar
6 cloves
1 3 inch stick cinnamon
2 C vodkaRecipe
Choose very firm, just under ripe red cherries. Wash fruit and dry on absorbent toweling. Cut all but 1/4 inch of the stems off.
Put sugar in the bottom of a 1 quart jar that has been sterilized. Add the cloves, cinnamon and cherries. A shake or two will settle the cherries. Add vodka to completely cover fruit. Seal tightly and wait 4 weeks before using.
