    CENTENNIAL CAKE (Chocolate Cake)

    List of Ingredients

    2 squares melted chocolate
    1/2 cup boiling water
    1/2 cup butter
    2 cups sugar
    3 eggs
    2 cups flour
    1 level tsp. soda
    1 cup sour milk
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. vanilla


    Recipe

    Melt chocolate in 1/2 cup boiling water. Cream butter and sugar. Add well beaten eggs and beat. Add the chocolate. Put the salt and soda in the flour and sift ­alternately. add flour and milk, then vanilla. Bake in greased and floured pans in a moderate oven - 350.

    CENTENNIAL ICING
    1-1/2 pkgs. "powdered sugar
    2 tbls. butter
    Dissolve 3 tbls. chocolate in 3 tbls. cold coffee. Beat together and add white of one egg, 1/2 tsp. rum flavor­ing and 1/2 tsp. vanilla. Add enough cream to make a smooth frosting. Add 1 cup chopped nutmeats. The chocolate may be omitted to make a white rum flavored icing.
