    Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

    List of Ingredients




    1 packages active dry yeast
    1 cup milk, scalded
    1/4 cup butter
    1/2 cup sugar
    1/2 tsp salt
    4 C flour
    1 egg, beaten
    1/2 tsp. crushedcardamom seeds
    Currants, (optional)

    Glaze

    1 slightly beaten egg
    2 tbs. milk.


    Recipe



    Dissolve yeast in a little warm water. Add a pinch of sugar and let stand 5 min. till foamy.
    Sift flour and sugar together and cut in butter.Add lukewarm milk and yeast, egg, salt and cardamom and mix thoroughly. Knead until dough is smooth. Let stand 15 min.
    Put in greased bowl to rise to double, about 1 hour. Then knead well,5-10 min. add currants if desired.
    Turn dough onto a lightly oiled surface. Divide into 12 pieces. Shape into balls.
    Grease baking sheets. Place dough on the baking sheets and let rise until almost doubled, about 45 min.
    Mix egg and milk and brush the rolls with the mixture using a pastry brush.
    Bake for 15 min until golden.
