    List of Ingredients




    1 cup shortening
    6 eggs separated
    1/3 lb. each coarsely chopped walnuts, almonds and pecans
    1-1/2 lb. mixed candied fruits
    1/2 tsp. salt
    3/4 cup honey
    1/4 cup molasses
    2 cups sugar
    3/4 tsp. each nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves and allspice
    1/3 cup wine, brandy or grape juice
    1/2 tsp. brandy flavoring
    3-1/2 cups sifted all purpose flour



    Recipe



    Cream shortening and sugar. Combine fruits and nuts with 1/2 cup additional flour. Add beaten egg yolks, honey, molasses and wine alternately with sifted dry ingredients. Stir in fruits. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Bake in pans lined with heavy brown paper which has been greased.Place pan of water in oven while baking. Bake at 250 degrees, about 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 hours. Yield - 1 large and two small or 3 med­ium sized cakes.
