    List of Ingredients




    2 cups sugar
    3/4 cup butter
    Cream thoroughly.
    Separate 4 eggs, add one yolk at a time and beat well after each addition, Sift together three times: 3 cups cake flour with 4 tsp. baking powder. Add alter­nately to butter mixture with 1 cup milk, 2 tsp. vanilla. Whip 4 egg, whites and add 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar. Fold into cake mixture. Bake in 3 layers in 350 oven for 35 to 40 min. Frost with Seven-Minute icing.

    Icing:
    Into a double boiler put 2 egg whites, 1/4 cup water, 1-1/2 cups sugar,1/4 tsp. salt, 1 tsp. vanilla and1 Tbls. Light Karo syrup.
    Whip with egg beater and cook for 7 minutes over boil­ing water. Remove from fire and add vanilla.
    This cake baked in a large sheet makes an ideal French pastry.
