    roast chestnuts in the oven. Score an X on the flat side of each chestnut with a sharp paring knife and bake at 425 degrees for 20 or 30 minutes until the shell begins curling away from the nutmeats. Peel and eat these toasty treats as soon as tender fingertips will allow.
