    Peel 1 medium sized turnip and cut into cubes, about half an inch square. Heat 2 tablespoons of fat or drippings in a thick saucepan, pour in the turnip cubes and add 1 tablespoon treacle or golden syrup. Shake the pan and stir until they turn golden brown and are coated evenly with fat and syrup. Now add 2 cups hot water, put on the lid and let the turnips simmer slowly until they are quite soft. Drain away any moisture that remains and serve.
