    Source of Recipe

    Scandinavian

    List of Ingredients

    1 1/8 C chilled butter
    2 1/4 C flour
    1/2 C ice water

    Recipe

Cut half the butter into the flour using a pastry blender. Add water and mix to a stiff dough. Shape into a ball and knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes. Cover and let rest 10 minutes.
Roll out dough to 1/2 inch thickness on lightly floured board. Spread chilled butter over half and fold the other half over. Seal edges. Wrap in waxed paper and chill 1 hour.
repeat process 2 more times, work quickly and keep dough as cold as possible. Divide dough into 3 parts, roll out to fit 9 inch cake pans. In one layer cut out small round hole, or other figures, for decorations. Chill before baking. Place in cake pans, prick dough with fork, then bake in slow oven 300 degrees F. until lightly browned and crisp.
Just before serving, spread one layer with vanilla cream filling, then with sweetened cooked prunes, which have been put through a sieve, then with a layer of sweetened whipped cream. Place a second layer over and repeat process. On top of this put the third dough with the cutouts, the filling can be seen through the holes. Dust with powdered sugar. Cut into wedges to serve.
