1 loaf French bread (about 8" in diameter & 15" long), ends trimmed & cut
crosswise into 1/4" thick slices
5 tbsp olive oil
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper Recipe
Preheat oven to 400°. Line a baking sheet w/ parchment paper. Arrange bread slices on baking sheet & brush them w/ half of the olive oil, then sprinkle them with 1/8 tsp of salt & 1/8 tsp of pepper. Turn slices over, brush w/ remaining oil & sprinkle w/ remaining 1/8 tsp each salt & pepper. Bake for about 6 minutes, then turn baking sheet around in oven to ensure even browning. Bake until croutons are lightly browned, about 6 minutes. Remove
from oven & let cool completely before serving.
