    List of Ingredients

    2 lbs round steak
    2 teaspoon salt
    pepper to taste
    flour for dredging
    2 (or more) sliced onions
    1/4 cup lard
    1 bay leaf
    1 clove garlic, crushed
    boiling water
    1/2 cup rice, rinsed well
1 28-oz can tomatoes (with juice)

    Recipe

Rub the salt and pepper into the steak. Dredge the steak in flour and press as much flour as you can into the steak.

Lightly brown the onions in the lard and remove from the pan. Brown the steak in the same pan.

Place the steak in a roasting pan and cover the steak with the onions. Add the bay leaf and garlic, and enough water to cover the meat.

Cover the pan tightly and bake in a 350-degree oven for 2 hours. Lift the cover and spread the washed rice on the steak. Cover the meat and rice with the tomatoes and juice from the can.

Cover tightly and continue to cook for 1 additional hour.
