HARDEE'S BISCUITS
Source of Recipe
America's Most Wanted Recipes cookbook by Ron Douglas
List of Ingredients
2 1/2 cups Bisquick or other biscuit mix, plus extra as needed
2 Tablespoons sugar
1/3 cup buttermilk (I used the dry kind that you mix up as I NEVER have buttermilk unless I am making a cake!)
1/2 cup Tonic Water
1/2 teaspoon vanilla flavoring
Recipe
Heat oven to 400*.
Using a 2 quart mixing bowl, stir the biscuit mix together with the granulated sugar. Pour the buttermilk, tonic water and vanilla into the biscuit mixture. Use a fork to mix until all of the liquid is absorbed, then knead in the bowl with your hands, adding enough of the biscuit mix to make the dough smooth and prevent it from sticking to the sides of the bowl.
You may now either pinch off dough and shape into biscuits or pat dough into a rectangle and cut biscuits with biscuit cutter. (I sprinkled a bit of the biscuit mix on my dough board as I patted out the dough ready for cutting, 1/2 inch thick). The amount of biscuits you get depends on the size of the cutter you use. I used the largest cutter from King Arthur Flour and got 6 HUGE biscuits.
Arrange the biscuits close together in a greased round pan. (If you make smaller biscuits you will need 2 pans)
Bake for 25 minutes or until golden. I brushed the tops of the finished biscuits with butter for a nice "glaze".
