    2# english roast...coat with flour and seasoning (I use salt, pepper, garlic), brown in dutch oven both sides.

    Pour 2 cups water over roast & add 1 large onion - quartered, and 1 cup chopped celery. Bring to boil; reduce heat and simmer for about 2 hours.

    Remove meat to platter, cut into bite size pieces. Spoon out onion & celery & discard.

    Add 2-3 cups beef broth to meat pan; chop 4 carrots, 1 small onion. Add 1 cup barley and the meat; bring to boil once again, reduce heat and simmer for close to an hour....
    Add some crusty bread YUMMMMM!!
