    Recipe Introduction

    Servings: 54
    Yield: 1 pan 12x20x2 inches

    List of Ingredients

    36 ounces dates
    2 1/2 cups hot water
    1 pound granulated sugar
    1 pound all-purpose flour
    1 1/2 ounces baking powder
    2 ounces nonfat dry milk
    1 1/2 teaspoons salt
    12 ounces walnuts, coarsely chopped
    20 ounces brown sugar
    2 ounces margarine
    1 1/2 quarts boiling water

    Recipe

    1. Pour hot water over dates in mixer bowl. Cover and let dates steam for 15 minutes. Mix on low speed and then on medium speed until dates are broken into small pieces.

    2. Combine dry ingredients in bowl and stir until blended. Add to date mixture. Mix on low speed only until blended. Scale into well-greased 12x20x2-inch baking pan.

    3. Mix sugar, margarine, and water. Heat to boiling point. Pour hot sauce over batter in pan. Do not stir. Bake at 350°F for 45 minutes. Cool.

    4. Cut 6x9 for 54 portions or 6x8 for 48 portions. Serve with whipped cream or whipped topping.
