Doughnuts, Applesauce Drop Doughnuts

List of Ingredients
3/4 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
2 large eggs
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon each ground cinnamon and nutmeg
1/4 cup milk
1 cup applesauce
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Vegetable oil
2/3 cup sifted powdered sugar or 1/2 cup cinnamon-sugar (1/2 cup granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon combined)
Recipe
1. Combine first 3 ingredients in a large bowl; beat at medium speed with an electric mixer until blended.
2. Combine flour and the nest 5 ingredients; add to sugar mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Stir in applesauce and vanilla extract.
3. Pour oil to depth of 2 inches in a D oven; heat to 375 degrees F. Drop batter by heaping tablespoonfuls into oil; fry 4 at a time, 4 minutes, turning once. Drain doughnuts on paper towels; roll in powdered sugar or cinnamon-sugar.
Yields 2-1/2 dozen doughnuts. Nutritional information is for 1 doughnut.
