    Pie, Apple-Crumb

    List of Ingredients

    PIE:
6 to 7 cups (about 8 apples) thinly sliced, peeled, cored apples (I like using Granny Smith for their tartness).
    3/4 cup sugar
    2 tablespoons flour
    1/2 to 1 teaspoon cinnamon
    Dash of nutmeg
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    1 unbaked 9-inch pie shell
    1-1/2 tablespoons sugar
    2 tablespoons butter

    TOPPING:
    1 cup flour
    1/2 cup light brown sugar
    1/2 cup butter

    Recipe

TO MAKE FILLING: In a large mixing bowl, combine apples, 3/4 cup sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Sprinkle pie shell with 1-1/2 tablespoons of sugar and then put apple mixture into shell. Dot with butter. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

TO MAKE TOPPING: Combine flour and brown sugar in a mixing bowl. Cut butter into this mixture until crumbs the size of small peas form. Cover pie with topping; use your hands to pat it on snugly and completely cover apples. Bake until deep golden brown, about 45 to 55 minutes.

    Serves 8
