    List of Ingredients

8 ounces fettuccine, cooked according to package directions, without salt

    1/2 cup reduced-sodium chicken broth

    2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced

1/8 teaspoon hot red pepper flakes (optional)

    1-1/2 cups shredded fresh basil*

    3/4 teaspoon black pepper

    1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/2 cup coarsely chopped walnuts, toasted (optional)

    Recipe

    1. While pasta is cooking, in a medium skillet, bring the broth to boil over medium heat. Add the garlic and hot red pepper flakes. (If desired, at this time 1 cup of cooked meat or seafood or 1 cup of steamed vegetables can be added.) Cook, stirring, for 2 minutes. Remove from heat.

    2. Ladle out 1 cup of the pasta cooking water; add to the broth mixture in skillet.

    3. Drain the pasta in a colander. Place on a large serving platter or in a large serving bowl.

    4. Add the broth mixture, basil, and black pepper; toss gently until well combined. Sprinkle with parmesan and walnuts and serve immediately.

*To shred basil, stack several leaves together and then tightly roll into a cylinder. Slice crosswise.
