    Taco Seasoning Mix

    Source of Recipe

My Cousin Bonnie LeRoy - November 1991

    Recipe Introduction

I have used this recipe over and over because the taste is the exact same taste you'd find by using the store-bought Taco Seasoning Spice. This way, I make a recipe which keeps in a jar, and I use the mix a few Tablespoons at a time, and it is more economical than the store mixes.

    List of Ingredients

    • 1/4 cup instant mincd onion
    • 3 TBSP Chili Powder
    • 2 TBSP ground Cumin
    • 2 TBSP salt (or you may want to omit it)
    • 1 TBSP crushed hot red pepper flakes
    • 1 TBSP instant minced garlic
    • 1 TBSP cornstarch
    • 2 Tsp dried Oregano, crushed well

    Instructions

    1. Blend ingredients in mixing bowl. Spoon 6 equal portions into mini envelopes or small bags; seal. I personally prefer keeping the entire mixture in a sealed jar.
    2. When ready to use, follow these instructions:
    3. Brown 1 pound (500 grams) ground beef or turkey in skillet. Drain fat.
    4. Sprinkle 1 envelope of seasoning mix over meat, or 1-2 TBSP from the jar. Stir to blend.
    5. Add 1/2 cup water and 1-2 TBSP Ketchup.
    6. Simmer, uncovered, for 10 minutes or until water has evaporated.
    7. Spoon meat mixture into taco shells and serve with desired toppings.

    Final Comments

Excellent flavor, hard to tell it is home-made and not store-bought.
