Small Batch Baking for Chocolate Lovers

    List of Ingredients

    Cinnamon Chocolate Scones
    1/2 cup flour
2 tablespoons sugar -- plus 1/2 teaspoon for sprinkling on scones
    1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
    1/8 teaspoon baking soda
    1/8 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons unsalted butter -- cold, diced
1 tablespoon egg -- well beaten
    2 tablespoons heavy cream
    1/2 teaspoon vanilla
    Cinnamon Chocolate Glaze
    3 tablespoons chocolate chips
    2 teaspoons unsalted butter
    2 teaspoons hot water
    1 tablespoon powdered sugar
    1/8 teaspoon cinnamon

    Recipe

    Cinnamon Chocolate Scones

Position rack in center of oven and preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.

Add flour, sugar, cocoa powder, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt to a food processor fitted with a knife blade. Process until blended. Add the butter pieces and pulse until coarse crumbs form. Spoon mixture into a medium bowl and make a well in the center.

Place the egg, cream and vanilla in a small bowl and whisk to blend. Pour into the well. Stir with a fork just until a soft dough holds together.

Form dough into 3 equal parts and then roll into balls 1 inch thick. Sprinkle remaining 1/2 teaspoon sugar over scones. Bake the scones until dry to the touch, cracked, and wooden toothpick inserted in center of one comes out clean, about 18 minutes.

Remove baking sheet from oven and remove scones to wire rack to cool. Spoon the Cinnamon Chocolate Glaze over scones and serve warm or at room temperature. Best eaten the day they are made.

    Cinnamon Chocolate Glaze

Add the chocolate chips and butter to a small microwave safe bowl. Microwave on medium powder until soft, 30 to 45 seconds. Stir until smooth. Stir in hot water until blended. Stir and powdered sugar and cinnamon. Glaze scones.
