    List of Ingredients

    3/4 cup butter -- 1 1/2 sticks
    1 pound brown sugar, packed
    2/3 cup evaporated milk
    3 1/2 cups powdered sugar -- minus 1/4 cup; 1 pound
    1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup chopped nuts -- pecans, walnuts or peanuts

Melt butter in 3-quart saucepan. Add brown sugar and evaporated milk; stir to blend. Bring to a boil and boil exactly 3 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool 2 minutes. If sugar crystals form on sides of pan, wipe them off.

Meanwhile, sift powdered sugar; beat it into mixture until candy is well blended. Add vanilla and nuts; mix to distribute.

Pour into buttered 9-inch square pan. Mark in squares. Chill; cut in pieces, place in airtight container and refrigerate. Candy will keep for several weeks. Makes about 81 squares or 2 3/4 pounds.
