    Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
    Thought I would post this, also. We really loved this ice cream. This is the entire recipe, but I halved it, as my freezer only holds 1.5 quarts:

    1 vanilla bean
    2 C milk
    8 egg yolks
    3/4 C sugar
    2 C whipping cream
    2-3 tsp vanilla flavoring
    1/2 tsp Kosher salt

    Warm milk with vanilla bean. Let sit at least 20 minutes for vanilla to infuse. Mix yolks and sugar. Remove bean and add warm milk to egg yolks/sugar, tempering carefully. Cook custard mixture on medium heat, stirring, until it coats back of the spoon.

    Add cream, vanilla, salt. Taste. May add more flavoring or salt. BE CAREFUL WITH THE SALT. You will definitely taste it. Then I scraped the inside of the bean into the mixture. Poured it into the freezer. Took less than 30 minutes to freeze.
