    Sugar Cookies for Christmas

    I want to try these before the holidays. I like sugar cookies with cornstarch. Gives them a good texture.
    No-Roll Sugar Cookies

    Hand-Shaped & Pressed
    Cookies


    Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
    -------- ------------ --------------------------------
    1 cup granulated sugar
    1 cup powdered sugar
    1 cup butter or margarine -- softened
    1 cup vegetable oil
    2 teaspoons vanilla
    3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    3/4 cup cornstarch
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    1 teaspoon cream of tartar
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    Granulated sugar

    Beat sugars, butter, oil and vanilla in large bowl with electric
    mixer on
    medium speed, or mix with spoon. Stir in remaining ingredients except
    granulated sugar. Cover and refrigerate about 2 hours or until firm.

    Heat oven to 375º. Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Place about 2 inches
    apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Press bottom of glass into dough to
    grease, then dip into granulated sugar; press on shaped dough until
    about
    1/4 inch thick. Bake 6 to 8 minutes or until set but not brown.
    Immediately remove from cookie sheet to wire rack.
