    Best cake in the world!! Brings back my childhood memories of my Mother.


    List of Ingredients


    • 2 c. sugar
    • 2 1/2 c. flour
    • 1 c. Crisco
    • 1 tsp. baking soda
    • 1 c. buttermilk
    • 2 tsp. vanilla
    • 4 eggs
    • pinch of salt
    • 1 pkg. German sweet chocolate
    • Filling**
    • 1 1/2 c. evaporated milk
    • 1 1/2 c. sugar
    • 1 1/2 tbsp. butter
    • 4 egg yolks
    • 1 1/2 c. chopped pecans
    • 1 1/2 c. coconut


    Instructions


    1. Dissolve chocolate in 1/3 cup boiling water. Cool
    2. Sift flour, sugar and salt into bowl.
    3. Add Crisco and milk to which soda has been added.
    4. Beat until well mixed.
    5. Add 1 egg at a time.
    6. Add chocolate and vanilla.
    7. Mix only enough to blend together.
    8. Bake in 3 layers at 350 degrees.
    9. Put milk sugar, butter and egg yolks in double boiler and cook until thick.
    10. Add coconut and pecans and stir well.
    11. Spread between layers and on top and sides after layers are cool.
