    Turnover- Walnut-Cheddar Triangles

    Source of Recipe

From Food & Wine, The Best of 1985 Collection

    List of Ingredients

    6 tablespoons unsalted butter
    1 cup all-purpose flour
    1 cup grated Cheddar cheese
    1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
    1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
    1 egg, beaten
1 cup chopped walnuts, lightly toasted

    Recipe

    1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line 2 baking sheets with foil. In a medium bowl, cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Add the grated cheese, salt, black pepper and cayenne and mix until blended; shape into a ball. (If dough is very soft, wrap in plastic wrap and place in the freezer for about 10 minutes, until firm.)
    2. On lightly floured board, roll out the dough into a 1/8-inch-thick rectangle. Cut into 2-inch strips; cut the strips into bite-size triangles. Place on the baking sheets and brush with the beaten egg. Sprinkle the walnuts on top and gently press the nuts onto the dough.
    3. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes, until golden. Transfer to a rack and let cool before serving.
