Strawberry Swirl
List of Ingredients
1 cup graham cracker crumbs
1 tablespoon sugar
1/4 cup margarine, melted
2 cups sliced strawberries or 10 oz
package frozen berries, thawed
1 3-oz package strawberry gelatin
1 cup boiling water
1/2 pound marshmallows
1/2 cup milk
1 cup whipping cream, whipped
Recipe
Mix crumbs and butter (sic).
Press firmly over bottom of a
9x9x2-inch baking dish. Sprinkle 2
tablespoons (sic) over fresh berries
and let stand. Dissolve gelatin in
boiling water. Drain berries,
reserving juice.
Add water to juice to make 1 cup.
Add to gelatin, Chill until
partially set. Combine marshmallows
and milk, heat and stir until
marshmallows melt. Cool thoroughly,
then fold in whipped cream.
Add berries to gelatin, then swirl
in marshmallow mixture to marble.
Pour into crust and chill until set.
Cut into squares and serve.
Note: I have not made this recipe.
It is from a book I love for foods
from the past but it is one of those
community type cookbooks that have
not been edited professionally. Like
it says margarine in the list of
ingredients but in the instructions
they refer to butter. AND they list
1 tablespoon sugar but in the
instructions they refer to 2
tablespoon sugar. I think it should
have been 1 tablespoon sugar going in
with the graham cracker crumbs and
then 2 tablespoons of sugar used to
draw the juice from the sliced fresh
strawberries.
