    Grandma Sophie's Stuffed Grape Leaves

    Source of Recipe

    Grandma Sophie

    List of Ingredients

Take the grape leaves out of the jar and unroll them. Put aside the ones that aren't holey and make a separate pile of the imperfect or too small ones. Rinse all of them very well. If there is a tough stem on the end cut it off.

    Recipe

In a bowl mix raw ground beef, a few handfuls of cooked rice, garlic, salt, pepper, oregano. Lay a grapeleaf with the stem end closest to your body. Put a small amount of the meat mixture in the center of the leaf. Starting from the stem end, roll the leaf up, then turn in the sides and continue to roll and tuck the end. Do not roll too tight or they will explode and do not roll too loose or they will fall apart. When you are done, layer them in a pan making sure to cover the bottom, and proceed to make layers of them until you are done. Place the imperfect grape leaves on top of them and perhaps a heat proof saucer if you have one. Cover with just enough water to reach the top of the grape leaves and simmer on low until tender.
