    Spicy Round Steak

    Source of Recipe

Recipe posted by Corrie at thathomesite.com 9/15/02.

    List of Ingredients

    2 lbs. round steak
    1/2 tsp. dry summer savory
1 cup tomato juice or crushed canned tomatoes
    1/4 cup dry red wine
    1/2 cup chopped onion
    1 small minced clove garlic
    1/2 tbsp. brown sugar
    1/8 tsp. cinnamon
    dash ground cloves
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 green pepper, optional

    Recipe

Cut steak into serving size pieces. Brown in a bit of oil in a hot frying pan. Remove meat and gently brown the onion (and pepper if used). Lay the meat, preferably in a single layer, snugly packed together, in a shallow baking pan with lid.

Add remaining ingredients to pan, mix well and pour evenly over steak. Cover with lid (or tin foil) and bake in a slow oven, 325° F., for 2 hours or until tender.

I like to mix a Tblsp. of cornstarch in a cup with a bit of water and use it to thicken the gravy. My family loves this served with plain rice to soak up the sauce.
