    Kapusta Koslova

    Recipe Introduction

This is a hearty, stick-to-your-ribs meal that my Great Grandmother brought with her from Czechoslavakia when she came to America.

    List of Ingredients

    • 1 sm can sauerkraut
    • 1/4 C chopped onion
    • butter
    • 1lb ground beef
    • 4 or 5 lg potatos
    • water
    • flour
    • salt
    • pepper

    Instructions

    1. Drain the juice from the 'kraut and save it.

    2. Slowly saute the 'kraut and onion in LOTS of butter over low heat until they are translucent.

    3. While the 'kraut cooks, peel and chop the potatos and put in a pot to boil.

    4. Also while the 'kraut cooks, fry the ground beef and drain fat off when done.

    5. When the 'kraut and onions are ready add the ground beef to the 'kraut. Add the reserved 'kraut juice and enough water to cover mixture by 1/2". Bring to boil.

    6. While the mixture is coming to a boil, make a gravy with 1/2C water and enough flour to make it a little thick. When the 'kraut mixture comes to a boil, slowly whisk the gravy in.

    7. Let boil 1 minute. Turn heat down and simmer for 1 minute.

    8. Add salt and pepper to taste. The more salt and pepper the better it tastes!

    9. Drain the potatos when they are done boiling. Put into a bowl and make mashed potatos.

    10. Serve the 'kraut mixture over the mashed potatos.
