    My Mother


    Recipe Introduction


    Mother told me that, the more you make them, the better you get at it..
    They are Light and tasty Bisuits.


    List of Ingredients


    • 1/2 cup shortening
    • 2 cups self rising Flour
    • 3/4 cup milk
    • I will also add one heaping teaspoon of baking powder too.


    Instructions


    1. Heat oven to 475 degrees.
    2. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup.

    3. In a large bowl put the flour and shortening,
      cut the shrtening into flour until it is consistency of coarse meal.
    4. add milk. Stir with spoon until the mixture leaves the sides of the bowl. and forms a soft , moist dough.
    5. Turn the dough on lightly floured surface. Make sure the hands are floured also. knead gently 10 times. You fold it in half each time.
    6. Pat out the dough until it is about the thickness of your finger.
    7. With floured biscuit cutter, cut them out. I lay them close to each one. I get around 10. Really depends on the size of the cutters.
    8. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes. or until golden brown.
    9. TIPS...
      1. Buttermilk Biscuits
      Use buttermilk for milk and add 1/4 teaspoon soda
    10. 2. Cheese Biscuits
      Add 1/2 pound ( 2 cups) shredded cheddar cheese to flour-shortening.
    11. 3. Drop Buiscuts
      increas milk to one (1) cup. Drop by tablespoonfuls onto grease cookie sheet.


    Final Comments


    If you do not have self rising flour,
    use 2 cups all purpose flour
    2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
    1/2 teaspoon salt. Everything else is the same.
